The 2018 Ride Don’t Hide event raised $1.7M for vital mental health programs and initiatives. This could not have happened without the support of thousands of Canadians who participated from coast to coast. Through their efforts, in their communities and workplaces, they helped raise awareness about mental health and the need to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness.
In Windsor-Essex, we raised over $47,000 at an event with over 500 riders, donors and volunteers. It was such an amazing day of support, community, and fun! This year our goal is to raise $50,000 and we can’t do it without you!”
The Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch (CMHA-WECB) has been a part of the health care delivery system in Windsor and Essex County since 1971. We currently provide over 20 programs and services ranging from adult and children’s bereavement, community outreach, community treatment orders, concurrent disorders, counseling and treatment for depression and anxiety, dual diagnosis, early intervention, employment support services, health promotion, homelessness initiative, information and referral, intensive case management, justice support services, suicide education programs, and therapy. We work with a variety of community partners to ensure there is a continuum of services for individuals in need. For more information, please visit windsoressex.cmha.ca
Ride Don’t Hide raises awareness and funds that make a significant impact in our community. Your donations enable us to continue this essential work in our community. This event will provide essential mental health programs and services including:
Losing a loved one can be one of the most traumatic experiences of a lifetime. Our renowned Bereavement Program helps adults and children cope with loss by providing supportive grief counselling, as well as education and consultation to community agencies, groups and the general public. Support groups offer peer support and education to help understand the grieving process and healthy coping strategies. The program relies on community support for sustainability.
Our
Client Assistance Fund provides short-term financial support to clients in need. Up to $250 per client/year is available to use on basic necessities like food vouchers, bus tickets, cab fare, etc. The program is fully funded through community donations.
Mental illness affects at least 20% of the population. In February 2017, CMHA-WECB launched the Sole Focus Project with the objectives of raising awareness, addressing stigma, and raising funds to ensure that mental health education and training are available to workplaces, schools and community agencies. We encourage the Windsor-Essex community to take a stand for mental health through this campaign. Visit www.solefocusproject.ca to find out more. #showyoursole
All participants are encouraged to fundraise for Ride Don’t Hide. When you complete your registration, you will be given a link to your personal fund raising page that provides tools to send emails to friends and family, and social media posts, to request donations in support of your Ride. We will additionally be supporting you with fundraising ideas and materials over the months leading up to the Ride. Every dollar you raise stays local and supports a mentally health Windsor-Essex!
With hundreds of participants taking part in this fun, family event, we need LOTS of volunteers to help ensure a smooth and fun experience for all. Volunteer roles include registration, food and beverage, swag bags, route marshals and set-up/tear down. We provide a volunteer t-shirt as well as an orientation meeting prior to the event.
