Hi everyone,
For those of you that don't know me, "Hi, I'm Dennis" and I am contacting you for some help with an extremely huge goal, dream and project of mine.
I'm currently fundraising with Team in Training, raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. This is a cause that touches close to home and has grabbed hold, I am on a mission!! You see, in 2005, when my fiancé was 25 and was diagnosed with lymphoma, in her graduating year of university, and had to put everything on hold to undergo 4 months of chemo, followed by 17 back-to-back radiation treatments. To put it mildly, it sucked!!
Every single day from November 30th to August 23th of that year was hard, but there was one day that stood out for her. It was during a trip to the local grocery store to go shopping, nothing extraordinary, just an everyday task that we usually do without a second thought. However on this occasion, it took everything to just make it to the door, where she had to go sit on a bench and wait for her mother to do the actual task of shopping while she waited patiently.
This was the breaking point, after a few minutes of this, she crawled to the bathroom, where she sat down and cried feeling mad, sad, scared and full of despair. It was also in this moment that she decided to take a step forward and make a decision that would change her life.
She returned home to do what any 25 year old in the she turned to the internet…feverishly searching for something that could serve as a beacon of hope through the hellish treatment. It was during this time of chemo, vomiting followed by more chemo and more vomiting that she stumbled across that she stumbled across the Team in Training website and they had just finished the Disney Marathon and had hundreds of pictures from the event. Instantly she had a goal, a light at the end of the tunnel
Now, we sit here, 7 years later and CANCER FREE and we’re finally ready to attack our biggest challenge yet and make a difference in the lives of others in the process. Why you may ask? Because Kim’s cancer free and ALIVE and we want to raise money for cancer research and to help out other families as they’re affected by this terrible disease.
Sure Kim had it hard, but in reality she was one of the lucky one, her suffering wasn’t nearly as bad as the suffering of other people and their families. Heck, some even knew that they would die, but went through the treatments anyway to gain even just a few more months of precious time with their families.
So, it’s not just for us and being alive that we’re running, but instead for the people out there that can’t run, those who are fighting simply to see what tomorrow brings whose families are praying desperately that they’ll make it just one more day.
When we thought of this huge goal simply running a marathon seemed to pale in comparison to what these people were going through. So, instead of running the original 42.2 km, we’re running 80 km.
Our fundraising goal for this event is $30,000 and we need all the help we can to raise the money for this noble cause.
So, now, how can you help? We're currently looking for any donations, big or small, to help us with this lofty goal and anything you can provide would be much appreciated.
If you can't afford this right now, please join us on Facebook and help share the word for our current and upcoming fundraising events.
We want to make a difference and we need your help to do just that!
Thanks in advance for all of your support,
Dennis
