Marli Knoedler led an incredible life. In her 10 1/2 short years she touched hundred's of people around the Country. She was a healthy, motivated, fun loving beautiful girl who loved life so very much. She taught us and those around her more than any other person we have ever known. On February 22, 2007 Marli passed away suddenly to an unknown illness.
At this time we do not know what caused her death. We do feel confident that this had nothing to do with Angelman syndrome. Marli came into in our lives December of 1996. Dennis and I adopted her from the Republic of Georgia at 3 1/2 months old. We did not know that she had any health issues. When we got her home it was evident that she was behind in development and as the months and years passed her delays became more severe.
In 1998 we finally discovered what the cause was......Angelman syndrome. Once we understood the syndrome and its life long challenges we embraced it with open arms. We felt as though we were given a gift of love and patience. As Marli grew and learned so did we.
In honor of Marli, Dennis and I are dedicated more than ever to raise awareness and money for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation. We have developed this memorial fund with the specific intention for all money raised to be used for research. We do this in the hopes that new treatments and perhaps even a cure will benefit all other individuals affected by Angelman syndrome.
~ We thank you in advance for your love, support and generosity
