My ringette team is participating in the Kimmett cup to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation. The Kimmett Cup is a 3-on-3 pond hockey tournament in Cochrane, Alberta and is held in honour of Lindsay Kimmett of Cochrane who passed away as a result of a motor vehicle accident in 2008.
By age 26, Lindsay Kimmett had travelled halfway around the world, well on track to her goal of visiting a new country for every year of her life. With one more year to go on her University of Calgary medical degree, she was also within reach of her biggest dream: to become an emergency room physician.
Lindsay Kimmett was passionate about many things. Family, friends, travel, reading, and medicine were at the top of that list and helped define who she was. But if there was one thing that got Lindsay more excited than any of these it was hockey. She would take it any way she could get it; ball, ice, or pond, it didn’t matter. She was also a strong supporter of women’s sport but was never afraid to compete against men.
