Meet Gabe! He may seem like a regular 10 year old kid, rolling into 5th grade, but Gabe has been working very hard this summer - gearing up for his second year of fundraising for a cause that’s especially important to him!
After he broke his leg and couldn’t participate in all those fun activities kids live for in the summertime last year, Gabe started making paracord knot bracelets to fill his time. And when friends and family loved his handmade bracelets and requested he se...ll them, Gabe decided he wanted to pay it forward and donate all the proceeds to Alzheimer’s and Dementia awareness, science, and care. Gabe’s ‘Little Pungo Knots’ was born and he quickly teamed up with the local Alzheimer’s Walk and Dementia Alliance of NC (formally #AlzNC). Within a month, Gabe raised $1,000!!! He was even invited to business board meetings at neighboring East Carolina University and featured in the local news @washingtondailynews!
It was Gabe’s up close look at what Alzheimer’s does to a person that motivated him to action, as he had previously helped his family care for his great-grandmother inflicted with the disease. Later, he even enlisted his grandfather Bob to help him with production, further proving how important relationships between kids and older generations really are. (It has been absolutely heart warming to witness!)
Well, Gabe and Bob are at it again - making those #paracordbracelets ahead of the #alzheimerswalk coming up on Saturday October 6th at the First Baptist Church in Washington, NC.
