My Message

Over 21 years ago I began this journey with my friend Kelly Shires.  Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer around Christmas in 1996, it was such a crazy time and hard to believe it was so long ago.  She was faced with many surgeries and the termination of her pregnancy of her only child.  During this time Kelly realized there was a financial barrier for those facing a diagnosis and treatment plan so she wanted to focus on helping others while she battled for her life.  Together we formed the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run and the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation which to date has raised over $6.2 million dollars and has helped thousands of breast cancer patients across Canada.  After a lengthy battle with the disease Kelly's fight ended on October 31, 2004.  A day that is forever etched in our hearts.  With your help we can continue to grow Kelly's legacy and dream to offer this financial assistance.

In 2010, the fundraising efforts of the charity were broadened when The TraX4 Breast Cancer ATV Ride was co-Founded by my friend Tracey Guthrie and myself.  When I met Tracey she has already been battling breast cancer for many years, being diagnosed just weeks after her 3rd daughter was born.  Her breast cancer became metastatic in 2006 and after a very strong willed battle, she gained her Guardian Angel Wings June 1, 2016.  Losing Kelly in 2004, then years later losing Tracey to breast cancer has been devastatingly heartbreaking but what these two courageously amazing women gave to me through their friendship was a momentum to keep this movement growing.  I would not replace the heartbreak of losing them for the amazing love & friendship they gave to me,

Did you know that a cancer diagnosis can carry an extra financial burden? It is commonly thought when someone is diagnosed with a serious disease that they are automatically taken care of financially by the government and that all costs associated with diagnosis/treatment/recovery are covered by public or private health care - this is NOT the case. This is where the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run can step in and offer financial assistance to those across Canada battling breast cancer so they can focus on recovery.

So, if you are still reading....I am participating in the 21st Anniversary Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run, an all-women snowmobile event raising funds to help financially assist those diagnosed with breast cancer. I would truly appreciate your support!

The Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run is a registered Charity that helps financially assist breast cancer patients across Canada. This volunteer based charity helps provide assistance with items or services that are not covered by public or private medical plans so the patient can focus on their recovery. Some examples of financial assistance include (but are not limited to) helping purchase a wig, prosthetics, prescriptions and transportation to treatment, etc.

Any level of support is very much appreciated!
