No one deserves to go to bed hungry — not here, not anywhere! For a second year we are extending Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy, continuing to live gospel compassion without compromise. Once again I am inviting you to be a part of a team doing a work of mercy: feeding the hungry. I only beg for money about once a year, the first weekend of May, when we focus here in the Metro Grand Rapids area on hunger, near and far.
Once again last year the Dominican Chapel Marywood Team contributed the most of any group in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Our group (those of you who have sponsored me) has been such a generous part of the Dominican Chapel Marywood Hunger Walk Team. We call ourselves "Group MT2535” (as in Matthew 25:35). I know I don’t need to motivate you. You already know our call and mission to those in dire need. Last year you and the 76 other persons in GROUP MT2535 were so generous, supporting the Walk to the tune of over $8457. (In 2018 we donated $7,685; in 2017 $6,135: in 2016 $4,660; in 2015 $3,915) Looking back of the past 39 years you who have sponsored me have donated more than $58,000. Congratulations. That’s a lot given to alleviate hunger during this long period. Thank you. And we’ve only just begun.
I come to you once again this year, counting on your willingness to translate your concern for the hungry into dollars. I will be walking 5 km (3 miles) for you once again. This is the 41th Annual Walk in Grand Rapids, and it is the 39th time I will have participated. The continued support of friends like you have kept me going – not quite the Energizer ® bunny but I keep going for the cause of hunger relief.
