This year our Run Ranger Run team is running in honor of Jay's first Ranger buddy, Patrick (Ricky) Rudd. They attended Ranger Indoctrination Program together in the summer of 2004. After graduation Jay went to 2nd Ranger Battalion and Patrick went to 3rd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Patrick paid the ultimate sacrifice in October 5, 2008 while serving his country in Mosul, Iraq.
So what is Run Ranger Run? Run Ranger Run is a virtual run with the goal being to raise funds for GallantFew and awareness for veteran transition issues. Teams of up to 10 will run, walk, bike, hike, swim or row a combined 565 miles in the month of February. This all started with 3rd Ranger Battalion veteran US Army Corporal Cory Smith. After losing friends and getting divorced he wanted to show the public the difficulties and struggles veterans face when they return home by creating a very difficult journey home himself. He ran 565 miles in order to see his daughter. Now every year in the month of February we honor Smith along with every other veteran transitioning by running the miles and spreading the word.
