My Message

Each day, Canadian veterans, first responders, corrections officers and their families manage their service-related battles. I have been struggling with my own battle since 1997 after experiencing a tonic-clonic seizure while on a peacekeeping tour in Bosnia. Soon after, I was out of the military and struggling to find my own self-worth, identity and a community.

Over the past 3 years in an effort to make a difference, I have partnered up with an old platoon mate (Ian Hall) to co-organize the 22km Ruckmarch For Remembrance. After 3 successful years, and $30,000 raised for Wounded Warriors Canada, I want to build on this momentum with a challenge of my own from November 17th, 2019 to November 7th, 2020.

Fitness (especially in nature) has always been part of my healing process, but like anyone who struggles with an invisible illness, there are times when simply getting out of bed can be a big accomplishment. This year, I have challenged myself to accumulate a total of 5000km by cycling, running, hiking, rucking, swimming, and any other form of aerobic training I have access to.

I chose 5000km because that is close to the distance from coast to coast, and it matches my goal to raise $10,000 if I were to receive $2/km in donations throughout the year.

I will be documenting my efforts with the following:
1. Strava (you can follow me by searching "Karl Mac Phee")

3. Google Drive (I will log all of the workouts, with links to strava where possible.)

4. I will also share some blog posts on our website (www.ruck4remember.ca)

Please consider supporting my efforts and sharing this challenge with friends and family. All the donations will go to Wounded Warriors Canada and the fantastic programs they offer.

I encourage you to donate throughout the year because as I see the support come in, it will keep me motivated to reach my goal of sweating for our servicemen and women over 5000km in 12 months, and most importantly, to raise $10,000 for Wounded Warriors Canada.

Thank you for your support and wish me luck!!
