Welcome to my personal Light The Night fundraising page!
Light The Night brings communities across Canada together for one magical evening to share stories, remember loved ones lost and pay tribute to our heroes, bringing light, love and hope to dispel the darkness of blood cancers!
For the first time in our history, we will be celebrating as one community to Take Back The Light, on October 24, 2020, with a national broadcast and local events across the country.
I think that we all recognize that there is no such thing a business as normal in this time of COVID. Organizations are working to re-invent the services they deliver within the constraints of the marketplace.
Charities are no exception.
As you know I am involved with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC). I recently learned from the LLSC about the real threat the pandemic poses for the blood cancer community. Since the lockdowns began in March, non-urgent surgeries stopped, clinical trials were suspended and scientists in labs put their research on hold. What’s worse, many government agencies are redirecting their resources to respond to COVID-19. It’s a trend that puts blood cancer research in a dangerously fragile state. It scares me to know that people facing a blood cancer are experiencing greater hardship now. Or that scientists who’ve spent years to make progress in blood cancer research could see their work unravel, or worse, stop altogether.
Over these past 6 months, I have watched the LLSC struggle with the challenges of COVID and the loss of the Light the Night Walk. They have functionally reinvented themselves, accepting that their revenues will be reduced but have remained commitment to their programs.
This year despite lower revenues LLSC just released funding to 16 researchers so that they could keep their teams in place and continue their efforts. They have also grown their patient support resources to provide safe transport of patients to their places of treatment to avoid public transport.
Despite the hardships this year will remain to be a spectacular year as Take Back The Light will be a national broadcast held on Saturday October 24th and will attract over 50,000 across Canada.
But I need your help.
This is a call to action, to take back the light that cancer and COVID-19 have tried to take away I have a goal to raise $10,000, with you support I can reach it!
The blood cancer community needs us now more than ever. YOU have the power to make a difference.
Today I ask that you renew your support of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada. If you wish to make a direct donation as you did that year that would be greatly appreciated.
No one knows where matters are going to take us, but we all take comfort that the spirit of caring for others and finding a cure remains strong.
Best wishes and thank you
