Most of you have heard about our eldercare challenges over the past four years as my colourful parents have experienced increasing physical and cognitive decline. Sadly, even in Canada, a dignified retirement with adequate support is out of reach for many elders. Among the many Ottawa-area residences I have toured, Unitarian House stands out for the quality of care and the warmth of the community, which rival much more expensive for-profit businesses. How do they do it? As a registered charity, they fundraise to keep delivering affordable and high-quality care to all the residents.
