My Message

I am so excited to raise money and awareness for Angelman Syndrome (AS) by running with the Windy City Angels in the 2019 Chicago Marathon. This will be my second marathon, and I can't wait to run for such an amazing cause in my hometown.

Getting to know Luke Jurgensmeyer, a teenager with AS, has given me the chance to become a part of the AS community. Over the past three years, our friendship has allowed me to learn some sign language, understand more about AS, bring lots of gummy candies to Kansas City, and answer lots of FaceTimes. I am so excited to be running 26.2 miles for Luke and for every other individual and family impacted by AS.

Every donation received will go towards resources for families as well as funding for major AS research studies. Please consider giving to my fundraising page as I strive to raise $100 for every mile I run as a Windy City Angel!

What is Angelman Syndrome?

Angelman syndrome is a rare neuro-genetic disorder, so many of you might not have heard about it before. It occurs in one in 15,000 live births. AS is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy or autism due to lack of awareness. Characteristics or symptoms of Angelman syndrome include developmental delay, lack of speech, seizures, and walking and balance disorders. Today, we know that Angelman syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by abnormal function of the gene UBE3A, located within a small region (q11-q13) on chromosome #15.

Although we now know the specific gene causing AS, research remains underfunded and underpublicized. Please help me reach my fundraising goal to help the Windy City Angels raise over $50,000 yet again to open a new AS Clinic and support AS treatment research.
