As many of you know I am currently working as a Gender Advisor in Lao PDR along side my Lao colleagues at the Gender Development Association (GDA). GDA is the longest running local not-for-profit association working on gender in Laos. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Laos face many challenges including securing funding, lack of access to information and resources and bureacratic barriers that make it difficult to work on issues that are deemed "sensitive".

My position is made possible through Cuso International and funding from the Canadian government. How it works: I work full-time at GDA and receive a modest stipend and a place to stay that allows me a similar lifestyle as my local colleagues. The funding from the Government of Canada is setup in a 'pay-it-forward' model. Each volunteer (like myself) raises $2,000 and the Canadian government matches this in a 1:9 ratio. This means if you donate $20 I will match it with $20 and the Canadian government matches it with $180 - for a grand total of $220!!

I recently graduated from Humber where I completed my Post-grad Certificate in International Development. I received the International Development Award upon graduating and I want to leverage that award to amplify the impact that we can make together! I want to show that though our struggles may be different, they are all connected. That is why when you donate $20, I will match this donation with $10 to 10 Carden in Guelph, Ontario and $10 to Chippewas of the Thames First Nations - up to $1,000! My goal is to raise $2,000 in support from donors like you, which will be combined with my personal matching donation of $1,000 for a grand total of $3,000!

Thank you for considering making a gift towards my fundraising campaign and for supporting these very worthy causes.

**Tax receipts will automatically be sent from Cuso International**

Cuso International is a non-profit international development organization working to improve the lives of people living with poverty and inequality around the globe though volunteers, partners and compassionate donors. Each year Cuso International mobilizes hundreds of professionals who volunteer side-by-side with local partners to create positive and lasting change. Lasting change requires not only a financial investment, but also a human investment. That’s why Cuso International shares skills, and improves lives.

Incorporated as a not-for-profit, 10 Carden is Guelph’s ‘community hub’ offering local not-for-profit groups, socially-focused businesses and individuals affordable and accessible space. 10 Carden’s creating space for change model includes shared office/meeting space/event space/collaboration centre and offers individuals, professionals and researchers working within Guelph a place to gather/work and exchange ideas. For more information about 10 Carden and the expansion project, including Community Bonds, visit www.10carden.ca.

Chippewas of the Thames First Nation is taking a stand in the Supreme Court of Canada to assert their rights as an Indigenous community. They are challenging the Canadian government to recognise and uphold its responsibilities under treaty. COTTFN’s court case challenges the lack of consultation they received for Enbridge’s Line 9 pipeline project, but its implications go far beyond this one pipeline. The outcome of this case will impact future decisions in Canada for extractive industry and land use in relation to treaty and inherent Indigenous rights. Stand with COTTFN to uphold Indigenous rights.
