My Message

Mary received a liver transplant on January 23, 1993 at the age of 46, after a short, sudden onset of liver cirrhosis caused by an auto-immune event. She was lucky enough to be in excellent health in all other areas, so was at the top of the list to get a transplant. Unfortunately, she developed other health issues through the years and one of them ended her life.

Mary spent the next 24 years and 10 months living a full life. She witnessed the births of her 2 grandchildren and lived to see them grow into adults. She went on vacations with friends and even got married. She volunteered at her church and joined different community groups. She took art classes and made wonderful paintings, japanese embroidery pictures while knitting and crocheting several items for family and friends. To know Mary was to know the most gentle soul.

She never took her transplant for granted, and spent the rest of her life doing whatever the doctors, nurses, dietitians and other allied health professionals told her would help keep her around. She participated in many events for the Liver Foundation through the years and made many friends there. She remained  friends with some of them right up until her passing.

As her family that knew her best, we know she wants the research for liver diseases to help all of those affected survive and do well. We thank you for your donation.
