My Message

I am participating in the Victory Charity Ball Program to raise money for the Pinball Clemons Ambassador School Program.

I'm so excited to be able to fight, in more than one sense of the word, for the young men and women involved in the Pinball Clemons Foundation Ambassador School Program. Growing up as somebody who had what I needed, it was hard for me to understand the conditions that some of these young people grew up in.  However, this all changed when my parents decided to take on foster children. That is when I realized that not everyone can walk over to the fridge and grab a glass of juice when they're thirsty. Not every teenager could sit at home playing video games with his friends, some of them had to work in order to eat. This opened my eyes and helped me realize that I had things pretty good. As I get older, I realize that I have the means to provide in similar ways that my parents did and that's why I was so incredibly excited when I heard of this opportunity.

I've grown up playing sports, and at some point I played all of the major sports you can think of and a couple smaller ones as well. Football, basketball, baseball, soccer and a few others as well, but injuries took me away from most of those things. I've always been interested in athletics and but I never did much post-injury, that was until the birth of my first child. Getting tired chasing a child who could barely walk was not all that much fun, so I decided to get a job at a gym and go all in with it. Although my competitive gymnast daughter could still run circles around me. I'm closer to being able to keep up and I am now I love with the fit life. The fact that I can bring two of my passions together, fitness and helping these young men and women through such an amazing organization makes me smile from ear-to-ear. The training has been and will continue to be difficult. That being said, it will be worth it when I'm able to step into the ring and look across at my opponent and know that I have not only made amazing personal progress but through my donations, I was able to help the youth of the program as well.

I have two little girls that have everything they need, just like I did growing up. I want them to see their dad doing something like this, in hopes of instilling instill similar values in them well, so they can give back when they have the means. All in all, this whole experience is a dream come true.

The Ambassador Program is an alternative school program designed to assist youth, who have dropped out of high school, to reengage with learning. The aim is to help them complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma, gain valuable life skills, and successfully move into a post-secondary school environment.

The program currently services 15 full time youth, and 4 part-time youth, with one Teacher and one Child and Youth Worker.  Students work at their own pace on academic courses, and participate in a life skills program which focuses on skill building for youth to live independently and successfully. These life skills include learning the basics of cooking and nutrition, physical health and wellness, financial literacy, and personal life management.

Students also engage in community support activities, volunteering, and a program called the “Speak Out” where they travel to grade 7 and 8 classrooms across the city of Toronto and deliver a “stay in school” presentation based on their own life story and life choices.  Ambassador Students have spoken to nearly 30 000 grades 7-8 students over the past 10 years.  The core philosophy of the Ambassador Program is that every student can learn, achieve their goals, and realize their potential regardless of their socio-economic status, upbringing, or experiences.
