Dwayne Andrews Fund for Brain Cancer Research
Amount Raised
Fundraising Goal $20,000.00

My Message

My name is Isabel Andrews and I'm 12 years old….

I would like to start this because of my father, Dwayne Andrews, Gord Downie and those who suffer and are affected by brain cancer.

Last May my father was diagnosed with brain cancer a rare form called glioblastoma.  Fortunately he was able to have 92% of the tumor surgically removed. He still needs to do chemo and had to do 6 weeks of radiation treatment for the remaining stuff. This year he had 2 more surgeries, one to remove the dead cancer cells that the chemo killed, and the last one that took place on Thursday was to remove the part of his skull that got infected from the last one. He is currently still in Sunnybrook getting iv medicine.

As you know, Gord Downie has recently passed away from terminal brain cancer. He went to Sunnybrook  Odette Cancer Center just like my dad. Gord and the Tragically Hip went on tour and donated millions of dollars to Sunnybrook brain cancer research which my father directly benefited from.  As a result of these donations and the awareness Gord brought to GBM, a new program was implemented to teach new doctors how to perform these life-saving surgeries.

Gord’s donations is just the beginning. On May 27th, I would like to have all the people of Toronto to wear all grey and donate 2 dollars to the Gord Downie Fund to continue research, and helping fund these programs to help everyone.

This year, I started a civvies day for my school, St. Cecilia Catholic School on May 25th, because May 27th is a Sunday, where every child is to wear grey items and bring in $2 to donate to the Gord Downie fund.

Thank you for your time.

Funds raised will go toward cutting-edge research and patient care. Together we can help support the life saving work that Sunnybrook does everyday. Thank you.
