It has been a very long time since I tried to reach out to people to support an initiative, however seeing as my niece has jumped headfirst into trying to support this, I thought I would reach out to a few people I know to see if this sort of initiative is of interest to them. On the weekend I will be participating in a fundraiser for the Branch Out Neurological Foundation. It is an interesting initiative that is looking at finding non-pharmaceutical approaches to neurological disorders. The foundation was created by Crystal Phillips who was a top youth speed skater who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. As a result of her desire to try something different, and the success she has had, she has managed to be drug free and relapse free for 9 years – a pretty amazing accomplishment. I think we need to explore all types of approaches to disease treatment and management, and this is one avenue of exploration that seems to be doing some good. Why am I interested in supporting this? Because my mother died from vascular dementia, a disease that does not get nearly enough attention and research dollars in my opinion, and I have also lost several friends and acquaintances to things like brain cancer. If this can somehow help to advance successful management of issues such as this, count me in.
I truly appreciate that these are challenging times for all of us, and the amount that we are giving to various initiatives has declined materially. If you are not interested or do not want to donate – I understand. If you do, I appreciate your support.
Thank you for reading this far 😊
