My Message

Hi everyone,

I'm Steve McNeil and I have skated in Toronto for the past 8 years in honour of my mom and mother-in-law who both had dementia (Alzheimer's), for my caregiver wife as well as all the caregivers and families dealing with the challenges of dementia. I bring awareness and raise funds for the local society by skating 19 hours and 26 minutes.

My mother was born December 15, 1926. This is a tribute to my mother who battled Alzheimer's disease and to all the caregivers looking after loved ones challenged from Alzheimer’s Disease. My mother Eunice was born in 1926.

This year will be my first time in Saskatchewan, specifically in Saskatoon.

I am skating Wedneday, January 22 from 5pm to Thursday, January 23 finishing at 12:26pm at Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink @ Nutrien Plaza with details on my site at www.1926skate.com.  This is 19 hours and 26 minutes straight.

Your donation will go directly to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan and stay in your community

Every skate I have done, I listen only to AC/DC for the whole time. Last year, even the rock band AC/DC made a considerable donation to my charitable skate where funds raised went to local Alzheimer Societies.

I am a 58 year old recreational hockey referee from Etobicoke, Ontario and I am very comfortable being out in the cold for many hours. Please drop by and visit me during my skate, share my story, or you can follow my skating activity on twitter at www.twitter.com/1926skate  Some friends even come by to drop off a Tim Hortons large Double Double in a Double Cup :)  I encourage everyone to join me for a short time and skate with with me when the rink is open to the public or just come for a conversation. I ask people to donate $19.26 or more to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.

Thanks for any support you can offer.
