A diagnosis of stage 4, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), came out of the blue a year ago. Since then, I've learned it’s rarely discovered in the early stages due to the lack of a screening test.
Did you know that lung cancer in North America accounts for more cancer-related deaths than breast, prostate, and colon cancers combined? Shocking, isn’t it? The reality is, anyone with lungs can get lung cancer. Yet, lung cancer is chronically under-funded as many associate lung cancer with smoking, a lifestyle choice. However, about two-thirds of new lung cancer diagnoses are in never-smokers or former smokers. Most non-smokers diagnosed with lung cancer have non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), caused by genetic mutations in the tumors.
Lung cancer is misunderstood, poorly funded, and needs your support. It will make a difference. Thank you! Bev
