Dear family and friends - I'm looking forward to going to Orlando for the Special Olympics USA games in 2022!  I am going to meet alot of new friends and going with 2 other friends/athletes in Douglas County Special Olympics to represent Kansas Special Olympics.   We get to fly on a airplane together with other Kansas Athletes!  I also get to stay with athletes from around the world while I am there.  I know this is going to be a experience I will never forget!  My entire family is going also to support and cheer me on!

What is your ideal dream job?

"Caring and working with kids"

What accomplishments make you most proud of yourself?

"I am a happy person, friends to many.  I’m a really good Aunt and I help take care of my nieces and nephew.  I was chosen from our Special Olympics program to attend the first Special Olympics National Games in Ames, Iowa and I won Medals in Aquatics.  I have been employed at my jobs for many years."

How has Special Olympics changed your life?

"I’ve met lots of great friends and also many new friends outside of my local Program. I have learned lots of new sports and I have attended many competitions at the local, state and national level."

What challenges have you had to overcome, and how did Special Olympics help you?

"I have overcome the fear and am better at speaking in front of groups. I have learned and competed in sports I wouldn’t have ever tried if I wasn’t in Special Olympics.  I learned to be more independent (ex: staying overnight at events without my parents.  Attended and competed at many events)."

What does attending USA Games mean to you?

"I am excited that I was chosen to represent Douglas County Special Olympics and Kansas Special Olympics.  I am excited to compete and hopefully bring home medals.  I am excited my family is going to attend the events in Orlando to support and cheer me on!"

What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know?

"I’m an Aunt to 6 (5 nieces and 1 nephew). I love to ride on a boat, I love doing puzzles (can do 1000 puzzles all my myself), I’m really good at word finds, I’m in a bookclub, I love kids, I love going to Arizona to stay with my sister and her family, I have a dog, I like to read, I love watching sports (especially KU, Chiefs and Royals)."

Special Honors:

Picked to attend the 1st Special Olympics National Games to represent the Douglas County Jayhawks.
