My Message

Many of the approximately 80 million refugees and internally displaced people in the world must trek long distances to flee from their homes and reach an uncertain destination to find safety.  Most of them do this with children of all ages.
This year James Grunau and John Dyck would like to commemorate these walks of sorrow on the refugee highway as their participation in the Canadian RIDE for Refuge 2021.  Since they were two of the original founders for Journey Home Community, back in 2005, we are calling our team for this walk “Founders’ Feet”.  It will replicate, in reverse, a symbolic journey which many of our JHC families must make from the U.S. border to a place of safety before they arrive at our Welcome Homes in New Westminster. We will cover 30 km. in a walk from the JHC Welcome Homes to Peace Arch Provincial Park at the USA border, mainly along the King George Highway.  It should be noted that this distance may be done as a relay within a family or participating groups acting as a team, walking a minimum distance of 5 km.  We will provide more specific details about this later.  We would like to invite you and your family or interested group to join the two of us on this trek on Saturday, October 2.  As this is a fundraiser for our organization, and we are embarking on some rather ambitious long term projects, we have set our goal at $16,000 to be raised through the “Founders’ Feet” walk, i.e. $1000 for every year of JHC’s existence.  Please consider joining us in this symbolic walk and fundraising goal.  Please contact us for more specific details after joining our team.

Once again I am very moved by the plight of our refugee families and the commitment of Journey Home in helping them. I'm also proud of how you yourself are faithful to God's calling on your life in this area and doing all the things that you do to bring His kingdom on earth.

May you mount up with wings like an eagle, run and not be weary, walk and not faint. Blessings, my brother.
