My Message

It's cold out there, and on February 26, I'm going to do something about it!

Together with thousands of Canadians across the country, I'll be walking 5K, in support of people and families experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger in my community.

I  try to give where I can for those homeless, hungry or hurt. It makes me happy to know something as small as a dollar, a coffee or sometimes just kind words can make a difference to someone.

It can be a touchy topic when it comes to homeless.  That I found out through general conversations about people on the streets asking for money. There is always someone that believes there is no reason to be homeless, or hungry.  I get responses like "get a job".   If life was just that simple then what a different world this would be.

We all  have no idea on the reasons someone is  homeless, hungry or hurt and in my eyes it's not my business.  All I can do is try to help someone and hope that you made some type of difference.  At the same time you get to feel good about helping someone.  We were always taught to share right?

On a persoal note, I never knew that my father was once eating at the Scott's mission or sleeping in a shelter, on a friends couch, or in a park for a brief amount of time.  He never spoke of any of it until the day I didn't hire the person that came in for a job with no shoes on.  We didn't have any positions available at the time. He wouldn't take that for an answer, he was truly  mad at me for not giving someone a chance to get ahead in life.

His anger I didn't expect nor did I  understand it until he explained he was homeless and hungry once.  What he didn't explain was how he got there as that wasn't important. What was  important was how he got help.

I am fortunate to be able to help someone, and in honour of my father I plan to help make a difference.  Although he is no longer with me on this earth I know he will be right beside me on this very important walk to help others in need.

Please help  by clicking the "Donate Now" button above and donating any amount.  No amount is too small, we can make a difference together!
