I will be running the Chicago Marathon in 2022 to raise awareness and money for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation to support families and fund research towards treatment and a cure. There is a high chance of finding a cure for Angelman Syndrome since scientists know what causes AS and have reversed it in mouse models.
I never thought I would run a marathon, yet here I am.
My son, Jeremiah, was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome shortly after his first birthday. He is my inspiration and motivation to train for such a demanding event. I want to push myself physically and challenge myself as Jeremiah does daily. Jeremiah is determined and tackles everything with a smile even when he's frustrated, and he is always willing to give a hug.
Angelman Syndrome is a neurological genetic disorder that is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy, Autism, and other developmental conditions. I am committed to improving the lives of individuals and other families affected by Angelman Syndrome by ensuring that funding for research, clinics and family services is available. Every dollar raised will go towards helping individuals like Jeremiah.
