It's cold out there.

Greetings!

As most of you know, it's been about a year since I embarked on a new career path in the nonprofit sector. It certainly wasn't a planned--or easy--career change but, nevertheless, it became a much-needed opportunity for me to step back, slow down and reassess my priorities in life.  Making a difference for the less-fortunate in our community brings a whole new set of rewards than lining the pockets of for-profit shareholders.  I've been privileged to work with River Valley Charities, a small Hudson-based organization. What makes this organization special to me is their commitment to financially supporting numerous local nonprofits while collaborating right alongside them to make a true impact in the St. Croix Valley area.

A couple months ago, I was approached to be the Event Director for the "Coldest Night of the Year," a wonderful “winterrific” walk supporting the hungry, hurt, and homeless in our local community. The actual walk will be held on February 24th in downtown Hudson, but fundraising efforts have already begun. The event's goal is to raise $20,000 for four direct-service local charities:

Operation HELP in Hudson

Our Neighbors' Place in River Falls

Hudson Backpack and Food Programs in Hudson.

While there is certainly no pressure to participate, I wanted to take the opportunity to share this with you because it's personal to me.
