As many of you know, I had my first experience connecting with people experiencing homelessness back in 2009 when I first volunteered with the St. Stephen's Street Outreach Team. The work was powerful and like nothing I had ever experienced. I got my first official job with them a couple years later and have remained in the field ever since. St. Stephen's later merged with House of Charity to become Agate, but I still think of it as where it all began for me. Much has changed, yet the mission remains the same. And though my work has since taken me to Hennepin County, we're all still here to support our neighbors and fight for the dignity of housing for everyone.
