Hello my beloved family!
It's cold out there. This Saturday is headed for a high of 39 and the homeless population of Elgin will be out no matter what the temperature!
This February 24, I'm going to do something about it. Together with other people across America, I'll be walking and fundraising to support people and families experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in my community.
So many of the U-46 students and their families rely on our food banks and food pantries because the cost of food has gone up significantly. 50% of our students are considered low income, which means they are eligible for free or reduced-priced lunch and their families likely receive public aid.
We are in a mental health crisis and the need is so great for so many. We have resources, but waiting lists are lengthy. And finding suitable and affordable housing is a basic need and our community lacks resources.
