Why support our Seniors and the Ontario Finnish Resthome? Because it matters. Most seniors want to remain independent and age in the comfort of their own home. This isn’t always possible for health or other reasons. This is why the Finnish Resthome matters. It provides a home for those that need support and care and a sense of community for all of the residents.
When I returned to the Sault area, my dad was in the midst of moving mom into Mauno Kaihla Koti (long-term care) at the Finn Home and he was also selling their house and moving into Suomi Eesti Maja (Independent Living). Mom had Lewy-Body Dementia among other issues and could no longer function at home. With dad’s move, he was able to walk across the parking lot to visit mom. This move kept them together as best they could. After mom passed away, dad moved to Kotitalo. He was still well at the time but it provided him with community and support and peace of mind for me as I knew he was in good hands.
I got to know many of the staff over the years as they cared for my parents and other family’s loved ones. I have the utmost respect and love for these people as I have watched them interact with our residents first hand. They care for our residents with love, respect and dignity. This gives the family peace of mind that their loved one is cared for and loved.
This is why I support our Seniors and the Ontario Finnish Resthome – because it matters now and for the future.
