Every year, I see Ride for Refuge come around and think, “I should have done that.” Well, this year, I’m finally taking the plunge!
For those who might not know, Ride for Refuge is a family-friendly fundraiser featuring biking and walking to support local charities dedicated to providing hope, safety, and freedom for those seeking refuge. Having worked with organizations like the Christie Refugee Welcome Centre (CRWC) and Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by Toronto’s refugee population. I truly believe that being good neighbors means extending our compassion beyond borders, helping those who are on difficult journeys to find safety and stability.
This year, I’m riding 20km in support of Christie Refugee Welcome Centre. All proceeds will go directly to keeping their doors open and their programs running. CRWC provides emergency shelter specifically for refugee claimant families—a unique and vital service in Toronto, where many shelters cater only to women and children or men. During my time working at CRWC in 2018-2019, I had the joy of running their Summer Camp Program and After School Programs. It was one of my favorite roles, and I’m deeply grateful for the incredible staff and the wonderful families I had the chance to work with.
I’m reaching out to ask for your support. Every contribution helps CRWC continue its essential work, and I would be so grateful if you could help me reach my fundraising goal by October 5th!#ride24
