For over 50 years, the Social Development Centre of Waterloo Region has worked to raise the voices of marginalized people in our community. Its original mandate focused on issues such as affordable housing and the needs of groups such as youth, seniors and persons with different abilities.
I've been on the board of the Social Development Centre Waterloo Region (SDCWR) for years because I truly believe that they are the heart of social justice in our community. SDCWR became the charitable partner for A Better Tent City when we established the community, and this partnership ensured our survival through the SDC's administrative and financial support and by making it possible for ABTC to access grants and to offer donors charitable tax receipts.
I'm fundraising in the Ride for Refuge on October 5 in solidarity with people seeking hope, safety, and freedom. And although it only takes a few hours of my time, I know it will make a difference. By participating in the RIDE, I'm standing in solidarity with people who have little or no voice and who often get left behind or ignored. And by fundraising, I'm supporting a charity who is bringing hope and refuge to those same people. Thanks for supporting me! #ride24
