I remember, as a child, my parents taking in a relative's daughter to provide her refuge from an abusive relationship. Although it was a brief encounter it left an impression on me, wondering how this could happen and why she just couldn't stay away.
Throughout my life I have continued to see this cycle of abuse with clients, co-workers, friends, and family.
One only needs to listen to the news to see that we are a long way from solving this societal issue.
Although providing support and refuge for victims doesn't solve the root cause it is a major first step in stopping the abuse and hopefully breaking the cycle by showing the children in these situations that it is wrong!
SOFIA HOUSE is that first step and they need our support.
I'm fundraising in the Ride for Refuge on October 5 in solidarity with people seeking hope, safety, and freedom. And although it only takes a few hours of my time, I know it will make a difference. By participating in the RIDE, I'm standing in solidarity with people who have little or no voice and who often get left behind or ignored. And by fundraising, I'm supporting a charity who is bringing hope and refuge to those same people. Thanks for supporting me! #ride24
