On October 5, I will be participating in a walkathon to raise funds for Inner Hope Ministries. They are an organization in East Vancouver, working with youth impacted by extensive trauma, the majority of whom our First Nations people. On October 5, 1974, my family and I were involved in a serious car accident in which my mother was killed. We were struck by a car driven by an intoxicated First Nations youth. When I realized that the day for the walkathon was scheduled exactly on the 50th anniversary of my mother's passing, I knew I wanted to walk in memory of my mother, and also to contribute to an organization which has such a profound impact on the lives of many youth, who like all of us, Require mentoring and a loving community in which to grow and thrive. I will be joined by my nephew, Joel and his family. As we walk, we will be thinking of the legacy of my mother and Joel's grandmother, Mary Suderman. She was a kind, gentle and compassionate woman who is spirit will be with us as we walk!
