It's cold out there. This February, I'm joining housands of Canadians across the country who are walking and fundraising to support people and families experiencing homelessness. In my case, money that I receive goes to Milton Transitional Housing, a registered charity that subsidizes rent in one of their units and provides counselling and direction to help the participants out of poverty. Recently, a neighbour of mine was displaced from her home due to water and raw sewage backing up into her basement after a local flood. When she was placed in the shelter system, she awakened me to the huge number of people in our region who need a home to live in. In December, I saw two homeless people carting all their belongings - one walking down my street and the other about five minutes from my home. Decades ago, I was assisted in acquiring a home to live in, so this fundraiser gives me a chance to pay it forward. Please consider helping me raise funds by clicking the "Donate Now" button above. I'm perfectly okay with even $5, although the event organizer (who himself was once homeless) will only issue income tax receipts for donations that are $20 or more. Instead, if you happen to be directing your funds to a different charity that is special to you, that's wonderful! I'm just as happy to have your good wishes as I walk for this cause and also volunteer at the event.
Sincerely,
Sherrie
