Dear Friends and Family,
As most of you know, after many years of cyclical homelessness and incarceration, my dear son Chris died sometime in Oct. 2022, alone and homeless in a tent in Albemarle County, VA (near Charlottesville).
In my grief, I struggled to understand and know more deeply how he lived and died. I realized how intimately he was connected to the homeless community in Charlottesville, and to the loving and caring network of those who serve them through the Haven (a day shelter and resource center for the homeless). This brought me some solace in knowing that, although he chose not to live close to family, there were indeed angels in his midst, attending to his needs, listening to him, offering kind words, and simply loving him.
So, in memory of Chris, and in gratitude for the loving community that was present to him, I now feel called to do my part here in Fredericksburg, through the Micah community.
Together with other people across the country, I'll be walking and fundraising to support people and families experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in my community. Please, give generously by clicking the "Donate Now" button above.
In love and gratitude,
John
