Hello my friends.
It is that time of the year again that I walk to raise money for Home Horizon Georgian Triangle. As many of you know I am the Vice Chair of the Board and believe in the great work that this group of dedicated staff and volunteers do to help vulnerable youth find safe accommodation. At Home Horizon, our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of youth at risk of homelessness, offering them the vital opportunity to rebuild their lives and realize their full potential. These youth are in the process of transitioning into adulthood, and due to challenging circumstances, may not yet have acquired the health, personal, social, and life skills that make independent living possible. We have a 10-bed transitional home in Collingwood which is the only transitional facility for youth in the region. Our Outreach program interacts with another 135 youth annually while supporting others living rough with food, supplies, medical consultations and referrals when needed. We collaborate with many other organizations in the area to deliver our programs more effectively and efficiently. When you're hungry, have no address of your own, and you're afraid you won't have a place to sleep from one night to the next, it's nearly impossible to keep up with school or even find a part-time job. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean that they are not there. Recently our Outreach worker started to work with a group of teens aged 13-16 who are living in a tent city in Collingwood. I can't imagine experiencing that hardship at such a young age. Please consider helping me assist these young people and truly make a difference in their lives.
