Growing up I lived in substandard housing and experienced food insecurity. Relying on extended family and neighbors for water, food, and shelter taught me to lean on people when I needed to and share what I had from a young age.

I remember that time in my life as one of both deep connection to community and real hardship. Organizations like the Gathering Place can help build resilient communities and support programs like the Food Rescue Program, which supports foodbanks all over North Bay, with our help.

I know this has been a hard year for many, including the gathering place, and I believe in the power of people coming together to do hard things and build community in the process.
