It's cold out there and on February 22nd, I'm going to do something about it. Together with thousands of Canadians across the country, I'll be walking and fundraising to support people and families experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in my community. The donations I raise will directly support Squamish Helping Hands Society (Under One Roof).
I continue to volunteer at Helping Hands once a week, serving lunch to residents and others from all walks of life who need a hot meal that day. It’s a place where everyone is welcome, without judgment. When it’s particularly cold, it can be a real struggle for those without housing, both mentally and physically. I see firsthand, on a weekly basis, the importance of this place in our community, providing warmth and nutrition. This is just a fraction of the services they offer. Helping Hands needs our support to continue providing these services, as the grant funding they receive is just not enough.
I volutneer with the the kitchen team at Helping Hands, and they are amazing! They prepare:
- HOT MEALS serving over 120 hot meals per day (lunch & dinner) to community members in need.
- MEALS ON WHEELS for our seniors & those unable to shop and cook.
- SCHOOL BREAKFASTS & LUNCHES for kids at local schools. 350 per week
- MEALS-TO-GO to members in the community
