It’s cold out there. And this February, I’m going to do something about it.
Right now, food banks across Canada are experiencing record-breaking demand. In March 2024, food banks recorded over 2 million visits—the highest number in history—representing a 6% increase compared to 2023 and a 90% increase compared to 2019.
Here in Orangeville, the food bank serves between 1,100 to 1,200 individuals each month, with children making up 37% of those accessing services. More families than ever before are relying on the food bank to put food on the table as the rising cost of living makes it harder to afford even the basics.
