Homelessness is a problem we all face everyday. In Orillia, a town of of 30,000 people, the median house price is over $600k and a 1-bedroom apartment rents for $1500 plus utilities. There is a housing crisis and it is driven by real estate prices that are unaffordable for more than 40% of Ontarians. Everyone wants to afford a roof over their heads and thrive. Criminalization of homelessnessis is not the solution. Affordable housing is. In the meantime, we have to rely on the amazing job that shelters like The Lighthouse do. On February 22 our family will be walking and fundraising to support people and families experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.
