I am excited to be supporting La Maison de l'Amitié in the Plateau of Montreal with their really important accessibility project. They would like to install an elevator in their building. The project will cost $130,000. They've already raised $91,000! With your support, they can reach their goal. No amount is too small (or too big!).
This will be the first fundraising bike ride that Zachary and I are doing together!
The Maison de l'amitié is a community centre founded in 1974 and located on Duluth Avenue in the heart of the Plateau-Mont-Royal.. Their mission: Building vibrant community, Empowering people. Their values: support, peace and mutual aid. Their motto: “embracing community,” reflects our commitment to fighting social isolation, prejudice, discrimination and violence.
Their activities and services revolve around four main objectives aimed at building a healthy and dynamic community:
Promote the social integration of immigrants (regardless of their status) and reduce linguistic and cultural divides in the community.
Develop the employability of immigrants and disadvantaged or marginalised people
Develop a spirit of mutual aid and community involvement
Develop a sense of belonging to the neighbourhood
On a personal note, I have done some consulting work for this team and I was really amazed at the level of inclusivity, respect and hardwork that their team represented. I am interested also in the fact that this organization was founded and is still supported by the Mennonite community in Montreal.
