It’s cold out there. And every day, I see the people who feel it the most.

Working at our local food bank and shelter, I meet men and women who spend their nights outside, trying to survive the wind, the rain, and the freezing temperatures. Some come in with shoes soaked through. Others haven’t slept in a warm place for weeks. Many walk for hours just to reach a spot where they can get a hot meal and a moment of safety.

This February, during the Coldest Night of the Year, I’m walking for them.

I’m walking for the people who curl up behind buildings because there’s nowhere else to go.
I’m walking for those who arrive shivering, looking for warmth and dignity.
I’m walking for the individuals who tell me they haven’t slept, haven’t eaten, and our shelter is the only place warm tonight.

Homelessness is not just the absence of a roof. It’s exhaustion, fear, loneliness, and the constant battle to stay warm. And yet, every day, I also see resilience. I see people who keep going even when the world feels unbearably cold.

By walking and fundraising with thousands of Canadians, I hope to make that world a little warmer. The funds raised will help Storehouse Community Hub Society continue to provide hot meals, safe spaces, food support, and the simple human kindness that people experiencing food scarcity desperately need.
