It's cold out there. And this February, I'm going to do something about it. Together with thousands of Canadians across the country, I'll be walking and fundraising to support people and families experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in my community.
Why does this matter? Let the statistics paint a story. Between 2016 and 2020, homelessness in Ontario increased by 6.3 per cent. From 2021 to 2025, it increased by a whopping 49.1 per cent. By 2035, the number of homeless people in Ontario is estimated to be double today's numbers (85,000 to 177,000). This does not even include those facing food insecurity (estimated to be about 25% of the population, aka 4 million people in Ontario) or poverty.
