This February, I’m walking in the Coldest Night of the Year because the cold has a way of reminding us what community really means — and who in our community needs us most.
Through my work with the Bridging Rural Homelessness and Well-being Project, I’ve met people whose stories stay with me long after the day is done. People doing everything they can to survive in circumstances most of us can barely imagine. People who carry resilience, humour, grief, and hope in equal measure. Every conversation has strengthened my belief that no one in our community should have to face hardship alone — especially not in the cold.
I’m walking because of them.
And I’m walking because I know Castlegar Community Services shows up for people every single day. Their team is extraordinary — compassionate, steady, tireless — and they turn every dollar into real, immediate support. Food. Shelter. Warmth. Safety. A human being treated with dignity when they need it most.
Every penny we raise goes directly to helping our neighbours who are struggling. It helps the people whose stories I’ve heard, whose hands I’ve held, and whose courage I deeply admire.
If you’re able, I would be grateful for your support. Large or small, your donation makes a real impact, and together, we can help ensure no one in our community is left out in the cold.
Thank you for caring. Thank you for giving. And thank you for helping us build a warmer, kinder community for everyone.
