It's cold out there. And this February, I'm going to do something about it. Together with thousands of Canadians across the country, I'll be walking and fundraising to support people and families experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in our community.
In 2019 my son Jack became a resident at the Ray of Hope Youth 180 program. One of several programs under the Ray of Hope umbrella that supports individuals struggling with addictions. Thanks to the incredible support and guidance of the wonderful team he had, Jack was able to graduate high school and gain many valuable life skills that served him well when he left the program. Jack loved and respected the people he met there, and was so grateful for the time and care they poured into his well being.
As addictions can sometimes go, he lost his battle in 2021 to a Fentanyl overdose. I walk in his memory, to support those who continue to fight for sobriety.
The funds raised will support the Ray of Hope Community Centre in downtown Kitchener. The centre provides countless meals for those struggling with food insecurity. Employment counselling, addictions counselling, and also assist in connecting individuals to other community supports. In addition to meals, they also provide hot showers, haircuts, clothing and other necessities, including a free market place.
