Among my many very annoying[1] health issues, one of the ones taking centre stage in 2026 is in the joints of my foot. It's under control, in that the nice medical professional is helping and some days I don't even need painkillers.
However, it does get aggravated if I walk for too long on uneven surfaces[2] in footwear that isn't designed for support. And, unfortunately for this particular situation, my winter boots prioritize "warmth" and "not slipping" over fussy little details like ergonomics.
So I'm doing an offsite walk for Coldest Night of the Year, because there is absolutely no way I can commit to trying to walk even 2km--let alone 5km--in one hour at the end of a day in February through unspecified Ottawa weather.
Heck if that is going to stop me.
