KARIBU! WELCOME!
Awet Secondary School needs a new girls dormitory!
Campaign Update: The Awet campaign has been extended to a $65,000 goal. The additional funds will help build badly needed sanitation facilities like pit latrines and furnish the new dormitory. Thank you for your continued support!
Awet Secondary School is in Kambi Ya Simba (Camp of Lions), Karatu District, Tanzania. It is a very popular school because of its dedicated teachers and high test scores (first in the district). It has 649 students - 373 of which are young women - and there is only room in the girls' dormitory for 120 girls.
Please help a group from Algonquin College raise $50,000 to build a new dormitory at Awet Secondary School.
Dormitories for female students are important to their education. Students must leave home for secondary school in order to prevent their studying time being eroded by household tasks such as childcare, cooking and collecting water/firewood. If young women stay in town rather than in dormitories, they are at risk of harrassment by local men.
Awet Secondary School needs more dormitory space to help young women complete their education. Please help us today!
