Our Message

The Family Navigation Project is a program within Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre designed to help teens in crisis, and their families, gain access to and navigate through the complexities of the mental health and addictions system. We are grateful to our corporate sponsor RBC for helping our dreams become a reality!  We are proud of our program and it continues to receive positive attention in our community and across the Province. September 2013 was the inaugural RBC Run for the Kids in support of the Family Navigation Project. With more than 4,500 registrants, the RBC Run for the Kids exceeded all expectations for success. In its first year, RBC Run for the Kids was the fourth largest run in Toronto and raised over $1.2 million. As a result of the Run, we have been able to open the Family Navigation Project, and we were able to hire our first staff members in November 2013. We have slowly been building our team: we currently have 5 Mental Health System Navigators, an Administration Assistant, Program Manager and a Medical Director, psychiatrist Dr. Anthony Levitt. Since late November we have assisted in excess of 300 families access the mental health services they need. With that number increasing weekly, we have our eye on the future and, with this years' RBC Run for the Kids, we hope to be in a position to become fully operational with all our key project support people. We are also meeting with health service providers to introduce them to the concept of navigation and we are participating in collaborative projects with several agencies and facilities across the region. We are receiving calls and requests for assistance from all over the mental health and addictions system which has embraced the innovative and unique approach of the Family Navigation Project. Our Project is for families, by families. As part of that approach, we rely on a very active and passionate group of volunteers, our Parent Advisory Council, who are engaged in, and help drive, every aspect of the Family Navigation Project.

Thank you visiting our home page and we encourage you to join the FNP Team: the collaborative work of both professionals and families at FNP, we believe, is what makes our work so unique and life saving to hundreds of youth and their families across Ontario . If you know of families struggling to find the mental health or addictions resources that they need, please do not hesitate to direct them to the Family Navigation Project. We can be contacted at intake@navigatingfamilies.com or by calling 416-480-4444. Please watch for more information and for our official opening in the June of 2014.

With your support we will continue to grow and serve those families in need.

Experiencing Mental Health and Addictions is hard; getting help shouldn't be.
