Our Message

Our journey to the moon started when my wife asked a simple question of me, "Can you bike to the moon?".  Well that question was loaded, the answer is of course not, bikes can't fly plus even if just the distance, that it a long way to ride ( 105 km per day for 10 years ).  The conversation goes on and my answer is yes of course I can.  Just like the distance to the moon is a long way and will take time, so will a cure to PKD.  See our wives both have PKD and have to endure the issues with this disease, medication, appointments, surgeries, the list goes on.  This can't be easy for them, so I can't imagine that the cure will be easy, so let’s bring awareness about PKD, bring some funds to aid research for a cure.  Now we must have a plan on how to tackle this bike to the moon, why don't we just take it a bit at a time so we decided that we should divide the distance into 1000 bits and go from there, so the goal over the 4 days is to bike 1/1000 th the distance to the moon 384 km.

To accomplish this distance, we will do two bigger rides sandwiched between a couple shorter rides.  The bigger rides will consist of biking from Vancouver to Whistler and Whistler to Vancouver, why make it easy.

So join us in our quest to bring awareness to PKD and funds to find a cure!

The Bike to the Moon is the PKD Foundation of Canada's newest fundraising event, aiming to raise $30,000 in 2019. With each participant and each kilometre travelled, we will move closer to discovering more treatments and a cure for polycystic kidney disease (PKD). PKD is one of the most common life-threatening genetic diseases affecting approximately 66,000 Canadians and 12.5 million people worldwide. It equally affects men, women and children – regardless of age, race, geography or ethnic origin.

The funds raised will directly support critical Canadian PKD research within the Hereditary Kidney Disease Program at Toronto General Hospital led by Dr. York Pei, MSc, MD, FRCPC. With your help, we can look forward to a time when no one will have to suffer the full effects of PKD.

Donate today to help us end PKD and collectively we will bike all the way to the moon to bring us to the ultimate finish line: A cure for PKD!
