Brrr! It's cold out there!
This February, I'm going to do something about it. Together with thousands of Canadians across the country, we’ll be walking and fundraising to support people and families who are close to experiencing homelessness. Your Vernon Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy has formed a team, lead by the tenacious Jodi Cunningham, and will be walking on Feb 22nd with The Coldest Night of the Year to raise funds to help families locally in Vernon. Our Vernon walk raises funds for the North Okanagan Rent Bank organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association. The North Okanagan Rent Bank helps our local families stay in their homes during financial emergencies.
As a community pharmacist, I work hard to help my clients navigate their medications and understand this aspect of their healthcare. However, I cannot prevent the destabilizing effects of becoming homeless. Over the years, I have watched many of the clients I care for deeply struggle to maintain stable housing; many clients lose their homes and then subsequently lose their jobs because of the stress of being homeless. We can all agree the housing and rental market has been more than challenging in recent years. I need your help to fund this program that can save my clients from losing their homes and from the years of setback in their physical and mental health due to the loss of stability and safety a home provides. I cannot do it alone. We need our community to come together.
