The Shay Way is a charitable endeavour in support of The Ottawa Mission. Founded in 2023 by Hannah Hempinstall in loving memory of Michael Shay. 03. 29. 1957 - 04. 13. 23.

Mikey was a well known and loved character in the community of Manotick, Ottawa. He worked proudly at Manotick Garage (Tom's) for over 18 years, where Hannah learned from him during her mechanic apprenticeship. The two had an instant bond, that bloomed both inside and outside of the shop. Mike was the kind of person who would have given you the shirt off of his back, even if he needed it more. He was an open book about his struggles in life and with addiciton. He was the definition of resilience. He never failed to get up, no matter how many times he got knocked down. Mike would be so proud to know we are honouring his memory by extending a helping hand to those who need it most.

The Shay Way is an umbrella name for various projects, all supporting The Ottawa Mission. Mittens from Mikey was our first project; An ongoing collection of winter woolies and other essential items, all to be donated during the holiday season, in time for Christmas each year. This time, for the first year, Mittens from Mikey is collecting to make a donation in honour of Coldest Night of the Year.
