Our Message

Greetings from Judy, Sherrie and Jen!

We are three sisters who winter camp annually as offsite participants of Coldest Night of the Year. This year, we will snowshoe out to the bush with our boatload of belongings March 8-10, 2025. Yeah, we know, a little late to the CNOY party, but lucky for us, fundraising continues until March 31, 2025, so march on we shall. We're also camping later than usual this year because unforeseen circumstances which required our presence and attention meant we had to postpone our originally scheduled camping weekend. We promise we're not trying to dodge the harsh winter conditions--in fact we prefer them! ;)
With your help, we can share our monetary resources to help Elora House reach their fundraising goal of $80,000, of which 95% has been raised (as of the CNOY walking event that we missed which took place on February 22, 2025).
My sisters and I are so passionate about this particular charity because the recovery program is holistic and all God-created aspects of their wellbeing are addressed. From establishing healthy eating habits, to daily exercise routines, to academic support and advising, to professional trauma therapy, to the fully voluntary option of incorporating spirituality in the healing process- the women and girls who come to Elora House receive support for their whole person.
Find out more about Elora House by visiting their website, https://www.elorahouse.com/ and follow their Instagram and Facebook pages to stay up to date on helpful facts, and opportunities to support women and girls who have been sexually exploited.
What is Elora House?
It's a safe, residence in Elora, ON for up to 5 women or girls to receive holistic support after experiencing sexual exploitation or human trafficking.
How long do the residents stay at Elora House?
Usually for about half the year. About 10 women and girls are supported each year.
When did Elora House start?
In 2020. So far, 50 women and girls have received the opportunity to rest, restore and rebuild their lives after exploitation and human trafficking.
Why did Elora House start?
Elora House started because after hearing at a church event about the statistics of local human trafficking cases, Luisa saw the need to support women and girls after they leave the hospital, police station, or women's crisis center longer term and with a full range of support.
Is there really human trafficking in Elora and surrounding areas?
Where there are people, there is human trafficking. Human trafficking is happening in Waterloo Region. It's happening in Wellington County. The majority of victims in Canada are being recruited as minors and are between the ages of 12-14. Traffickers are using the internet to recruit children and youth through social media. Ontario has been identified as a major hub for sex trafficking. It is estimated that 60% of trafficked individuals in Canada are travelling along the 400 series highways. Trafficking happens in cities and rural communities.
Why did Elora House choose $80,000 as their fundraising goal for Coldest Night of the Year?
It takes about $250/day to offer safety, support, and essential services to a resident at Elora House. About 10 women and girls are supported each year.
Thank you in advance for your support!
